Currently, most visa applications from nurses are given priority processing. Below are a few of the most relevant visa options. There is more information on the Department's website.
Sponsorships
12-Month (Renewable) Sponsorships
CREAM of the Crop would like to offer the opportunity to facilitate sponsorship to overseas Registered Nurses who satisfy minimum requirements and wish to work in Australia, on a full-time basis. Sponsorships can be renewed up to a maximum of four years.
All overseas Registered Nurses interested in taking a further look at this avenue must be proficient in English and hold nursing qualifications recognised by Australia’s Nurse Regulatory Authority. Should you meet these requirements, please send us your curriculum vitae including your referee details. You will then need to register with the South Australian Nurses Board. We’ll happily assist with registration matters. We will then go through the journey with you from the lodgement of your visa application through to your approval and expected arrival here in Australia.
General Skilled Migrant Visas
These are permanent visas which allow you and your dependents to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis. These come in various forms and generally applicants must pass a points test. Nurses receive extra points, as nursing is on the list of in-demand occupations.
If you do not pass the points test for an independent skilled migrant visa, you can get a Regional Skilled Migrant visa for South Australia, which has a lower points threshold.
Working Holiday Visas
Working holiday visas allow you to live and work in Australia for up to 12 months, with no more than 6 months working for the same employer. Because they are temporary, the visa application process is relatively quick and simple.
If you are arranging a working holiday, we can organise assignments to fit in with your travel itinerary. For example you may wish to arrive in Sydney and make your way down to South Australia, famous for its wine regions in the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and Southern Vales. Spend some time in the state's capital Adelaide, enjoying the relaxed lifestyle and excellent restaurants.
Wherever you want to end up, we can accommodate your travelling schedule. Australia is very proud of its world-class health system. There are many areas within your field of nursing to work within and we can assist you with these too: Mental Health & Aged Care, Medical Admin, to name just a few.

Pay Rates & Comparisons
Australia's cost of living is very reasonable compared with many other countries across the world. While the value of the national currency, the Australian dollar does go up and down, you can expect to pay about 41 British pence, 69 US cents or 60 Euro cents for an Australian dollar.
Nurses in Australia are highly valued for their skill sets and are remunerated very well. For example, a Registered General Nurse with eights years of post-graduate experience would earn between $32 and $51 per hour.
Motor vehicles
You can expect to pay between $80 and $150 per day to hire a car in Australia. A good quality used car ranges from $6,000 to $10,000. The average cost of petrol is $1.20 cents per litre.
The train, tram and bus systems in South Australia are very user friendly and reliable.

Rental accommodation is generally easy to find, with costs varying between places. In Adelaide, a two-bedroom unit would cost between $120 and $160 per week. Houses can vary in price depending on its location & age – on average you could expect to pay anywhere between $180 - $320 for a three-bedroom home.
Food
The variety, quality and cost of food in Australia is excellent. A single person could expect to spend an average of $80 -$100 per week on food. For example, milk is approximately $1.50 per litre, a loaf of bread is $2.20 and a dozen eggs costs about $2.60.
Partly because of the multicultural nature of Australian society, food is varied and of high quality. Adelaide in particular has many gourmet restaurants and great fresh produce and seafood.
Entertainment
Australia enjoys a variety of different social and cultural activities, from sporting events, to concerts, theatre and eating out. Restaurants and cafes are reasonably priced: in Adelaide it would cost anywhere from $15 - $25 per person at a café and $40 - $50 per person at a nice restaurant.
