About Working Holiday Visas
Working Holiday programs are designed for young people to be able to experience the culture and lifestyle of another country for an extended holiday period.
Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417)
The Working Holiday visa allows you to stay and work in Australia for up to 12 months, although you must not work with the same employer for more than 6 months. You can also study or train for up to 3 months on this visa.
You can apply for this visa if you are between 18 and 30 years of age.
You can also apply for either a first or second Working Holiday visa. The terms of the visa will be slightly different if you are applying for your second Working Holiday visa.
Applying for this Visa
You can apply for this visa online, via the Department of Immigration website.
The online forms are very clear and self-explanatory, even if they look a bit daunting at first.
You must pay a non-refundable visa application charge when you lodge the application. You may also have to have a health examination.
The Australian Department of Immigration is generally very efficient, and processing for working holiday visas can be quite quick, a matter of a month or so.

Travel and Tourism
You can stay in one place or travel around within Australia, seeing the famous sights like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, and Alice Springs and Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock); or explore in depth its lesser-known treasures, such as the karri and jarrah forests of Western Australia, the Flinders ranges of South Australia, or the tropical heat and beautiful beaches of Queensland.
There is a range of accommodation from the budget to the luxurious. Travel is easy, with good public transport within the major cities, and frequent planes, trains and coaches over longer distances – including some of the great train journeys of Australia, which run through the shimmering heat of the outback and are holidays in themselves.

Recruitment and Job Options
It is also up to you how long you want to work for, and what areas you want to work in, from retail to administration to teaching.
In South Australia, there is seasonal work in a variety of industries, most notably harvest work. The wine and agricultural regions need pickers to bring in the grapes, almonds, citrus fruit and other crops of the area.
The mining industry, which is currently booming in South Australia, also has many opportunities for temporary work.
