Harvest Employment Centre
CREAM of the Crop offers candidates the fastest and easiest way to find harvest work. Our company deals with the widest range of reputable employers in McLaren Vale. We pride ourselves in long term relationships with employers who offer contract/long term work in the McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills, Finnis and Langhorne Creek areas, plus many others.
CREAM of the Crop's experience shows that vineyard and winery employers require recruitment services from 5.45am to 8:30 am (to lodge and discuss placements) and approx 3:30 pm to 8:00pm (to arrange the next days requirements). CREAM of the Crop provides after hours services for jobseekers and employers through website access and a mobile number.
With over 25 years recruitment expertise, including a number of years specialising in harvest staffing, Simon and Suzanne Jones commenced the operation of ‘CREAM of the Crop’ viticulture recruitment company in 2003. Over the past 3 years, CREAM of the Crop has developed an excellent reputation for providing superior localised recruitment and consultancy services to the viticulture industry in South Australia. In addition, CREAM of the Crop has been providing the same services in the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.
CREAM of the Crop offers the following recruitment services to the viticulture and agriculture industry across South Australia: Seasonal Harvest placements – this is a FREE service to clients involved in the Harvest Industries in the Southern Vales area (see terms and conditions link) and includes fruit pickers, pruners, packers etc.
Permanent Placements such as: - Cellar Door Hands - Cellar Hands - Office Administration - Expert - Stores/Warehousing - Truck, Tractor & Machinery Operators - Mechanics - Irrigation Technicians - Retail - Hospitality & Tourism - Information Technology, Multimedia and Marketing and much more… - After hours and early morning services for both employers and jobseekers during seasonal work - Viticulture, Agriculture and Wine Tourism training courses
CREAM of the Crop is highly regarded for their cooperation with ICEFIT - a cross-departmental operation including Centrelink, ATO, Federal Police and Immigration, that operates to uncover illegal employment operations. Through their work with grower association bodies, Cream of the Crop is a well respected member of the viticulture community, regularly presenting employment and training information at forums and stakeholder meetings.
CREAM of the Crop have now been asked to handle a Government contract that enables us to actively source out of area workers to meet the high demand of workers required placed upon the region during Vintage. This means they can help find employment for anyone legally entitled to work within Australia, including Registered Jobseekers receiving Centrelink benefits / registered with a Job Network, Grey Nomads and Working holiday visa holders.
What this means for the region
The establishment of this new Government contract should see:
- A decrease in staff shortages within the Horticulture/Viticulture/Agriculture industries
- An increase in tourism related spending. Growers in the area have reported that last year approx 70% of their staff during
Vintage were out of area workers. Most earnings are put back into the region with daily expenses.
- An enhanced awareness of the region and what it has to offer
CREAM of the Crop is also active in developing industry specific training courses eg pruning training. CREAM of the Crop has been highly active sourcing Regional Development funding and organising a variety of courses within Adelaide Hills, Barossa and McLaren Vale. In addition to developing funding bases, organising presenters and recruiting participants, CREAM of the Crop has also been actively involved as a pruning trainer.
CREAM of the Crop is involved in the coordination of :
- Jobseeker referral to vacancies on a daily basis - Early morning liaison with employers on site basis to check employee ‘no shows’ - Daily liaison with employers to determine Baume, PH & Total Acidity levels. These give an indication of picking commencement activity. - Liaison with migrant and community groups in order to source additional worker. For example great success was achieved through working with recently arrived Afghan migrant groups. This success was achieved through careful consideration of issues posed through ESL difficulties and various cultural requirements. - Community groups include liaison with Registered Training Organisations - Wine Grape & Tourism Association, B&B Committee, McLaren Vale Visitor’s Centre etc
